Gentle Manual Therapy
in the field of
Cranial and Structural Medicine
Christopher J. Bell BSc(Hons) DO
Honours Degree in Biochemistry (1981)
Diploma in Osteopathy (1987)
Christopher Bell graduated from London University with an Honours Degree in Biochemistry before going on to study for four years full-time at the British School of Osteopathy. He successfully graduated with a diploma in osteopathy in 1987.
Post-graduate training over the following years included courses on cranial osteopathy and the treatment of structural and functional problems arising in the internal organs. This understanding that medical problems can have structural components that can be treated with Gentle Manual Therapy has been termed Structural Medicine by Mr. Bell.
Structural medicine applies gentle, specialised manual techniques to identify and treat anomalies of movement and tension throughout the body which, can be used to treat a variety of abdominal, pelvic, breathing and childhood problems in addition to those of the spine, muscles and joints.
Mr Bell refused to register under the Osteopaths Act 1993 because of concerns raised in Parliament over standards at the new General Osteopathic Council (GOsC) and he therefore no longer uses the title, osteopath and now practises as a manual therapist.
